We offer positive blessings, center our awareness + consciously evoke the plant spirit before the practice of Yoga asana (poses).
If you have never enjoyed the plant before and are not sure how it affects you, then I would suggest that you do so in a safe and comfortable space at home to see what the experience is like for you. Short answer is Yes.
Within Eastern spirituality, the plant is related to Lord Shiva who is also the patron of Yoga. In the context of the Yoga Sutras, it's okay to engage if it doesn't hinder your progress and actually helps calm your mind. Yoga's ultimate goal is to attain self-realization and a profound sense of inner peace with a deeper understanding of the self and one's connection to the universe.
Always start low and slow and avoid products with a high percentage. If you do feel out of control, informing the teacher, drinking a glass of water, eating a light snack will work. Use the Yoga technique of focusing on the inhale and exhale of your breath and you will return you to a more balanced state.
